Much of south Florida received heavy amounts of rainfall from Tropical Storm Fay. Some power outages and flooding was a result of the storm. Northwest Florida only experienced some rain and some gusty winds. No flooding or damage has been reported along the Emerald Coast. Some locals say there is a "dome" over Miramar Beach. Labor Day weekend is a busy weekend along the Emerald Coast! Many people may be questioning their reservations to come to the Emerald Coast for Labor Day weekend since Fay. The weather for Labor Day weekend should be great here along the Emerald Coast. Both jellyfish and Fay have left the area! Those coming to the Emerald Coast for Labor Day weekend should remember to do everything "early". The Emerald Coast will be extremely busy! The Jamaican Festival will take place Labor Day weekend on Pensacola Beach! Fans of reggae should make plans to head out to Pensacola Beach for the Jamaican Festival. Along with the beautiful beaches of the Emerald Coast, some great music and a great crowd, festival goers should experience a great event of the Jamaica culture. The Florida Public Service Commission has approved an 11.3 percent increase in electricity rates for the Gulf Power Company. Beginning September, the electric bill will rise from and average monthtly residential bill of 1,000 kilowatt hours from $102.22 to $113.76. Gulf Power is making the increase due to an estimated annual shortfall of more than $76 million in fuel costs. Mostly coal and natural gas are used to make electricity and the rise in the costs are bringing up the electric bill. Red Snapper season is now closed in federal waters. Those fishing for Red Snapper will have to wait till June of 2009 to catch Red Snapper in federal waters. Red Snapper can still be fished for in state waters. Federal waters is where the best fishing takes place for Red Snapper. Both the Royal B Restaurant and Finz of the Sandestin Resort have closed. Both restaurants closed due to a slow market. The Royal B's numbers were down by 50 percent after the 4th of July this year. Finz opened in 1983 as The Elephant Walk. Finz unfortunately closed its kitchen doors due to slow business like the Royal B. Both restaurants offered a great fine dining experience on the Emerald Coast.
