From Destin to Panama City, there has been a high number of beachgoers! The beaches during St. Patty's day were absolutely chaotic in some places. MTV was a big attraction out on the beaches of Panama City! The number of students on break has dramatically dropped for the week from 600,000 to 28,000. More spring breakers will be on the way in another week with Louisiana and many public schools going on break! Tim Creehan filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Creehan's restaurants The Copper Grill and Bluz Bar and Grill will not open again. Creehan originally planned to close the restaurants temporarily till business picked up. The tough times took its toll on him as well.. Creehan has all his focus on his roots with the Beach Walk Cafe. Its a fresh start for him! The properties will be turned over to a trustee to convert them to cash and divide the amount among creditors. Lifeguards are back on the beaches everywhere! The waters have been pretty calm lately and the guards haven't been too busy to start the season off. During past spring breaks there have been a few drownings due to rough conditions on the beaches. Swimmers should always excersize great caution anytime when entering the Gulf of Mexico! Walton County may see a new line in the sand for homeowners! The Coastal Construction Control Line is being reestablished. A line will be drawn using a numerical model that determines probable erosion. The reestablishment will protect $150 billion worth of property along the beaches, as well as marine habitats. Around 96 properties will be affected by the change that was first drawn out in 1975 and a recent study was conducted that will now change it. State Road 399 is back open! 399 is a very scenic drive along the beach that connects Navarre and Pensacola beaches. The road has been closed since the storms of 2004 and 2005. Many locals and visitors have been anticipating the reopening! The first cobia has been caught for 2009! The HarborWalk Marina Destin Cobia Tournament has kicked off and the first cobia was caught off the beaches of Navarre. The cobia weighed in at 42 pounds. Many fishing boats can now be seen just off the beaches searching for cobia. The tournament will run till May 8th. Fishermen looking to register for the tournament can get signed up at the HarborWalk Marina or at www.destincobiatournament.com.
