What is probably the last tropical system in the Gulf of Mexico for 2009 was nothing major. Ida brought lots of rain, some wind and large surf. Sterling's career can be followed at www.sterlingspencer.com United Airlines coming to Pensacola! Starting February of 2010, United Airlines will offer flights to Washington D.C. and Chicago. There will be two daily flights that are non-stop to Dulles in Washington D.C. There will be one flight to Chicago on Saturday and Sunday only from February 13th till June 6th. The Pensacola Gulf Coast Regional Airport is undergoing a $78 million expansion. Great concerts coming up! The Swamp on Okaloosa Island will host two great concerts coming up. On Wednesday November 18th Jet will be live. December 4th the Swamp will host The All-American Rejects, Taking Back Sunday and Anberlin!!!!! Tickets are now on sale! Panama City will see sand soon! Panama City Tourist Development Council is moving forward with permits for beach restoration. Two sites in the Gulf of Mexico offer sand that will be favorable for the beaches. Shell Island and off the beaches of Thomas Drive are the two sites. The 3rd penny in the bed tax is used for beach renourishment in Panama City. Dune lakes in Walton County are rare in the world. Walton County has 15 lakes that happen to be globally rare. Only on the coast of Oregon and New Zealand are there dune lakes. The lakes support both fresh and salt water marinelife that creates a unique ecosystem. The Coastal Dune Lake Advisory Board is putting forth effort to protect the dune lakes.
