Some Of The News Covered:New Year's Eve was chilly! Ringing in 2010 wasn't much different than 2009. Both evenings were quite chilly. Places like the Baytowne Wharf, Nightown and The HarborWalk had great crowds! HarborWalk had a nice fireworks display as the clock struck 12. Gumbo and wings coming! The Great Southern Gumbo and Wing Ding Championship will take place Saturday January 16th from 11 till 3 p.m. at The Market Shops at Sandestin. Area restaurants will compete for bragging rights for the best gumbo and wings! Tickets will be $15 in advance and $25 the day of. Visit www.sandestin.com/gumbowingding for details. Music festival coming to 30-A! The 30-A Songwriter's Festival will have its first year on the beaches along 30-A. From January 15th till the 17th the festival will take place all along the scenic route. The music festival will include Emily Sailers of the Indigo Girls, Gary Louris of the Jayhawks, Shawn Mullins, Matthew Sweet, Chely Wright, Jeffrey Steele and Jessi Alexander. The festival had more offers to participate but, could not accept them all. Sharks coming to Okaloosa Island. The Humane Society plans to educate the public on Okaloosa Island about sharks and the protection they need. Shark fishing tournaments have taken place on the Emerald Coast and part of the event is to create awareness about shark fishing and its damage to shark populations. The event will also include national speakers, high-quality documentaries and independent films. The event will take place at the Okaloosa Island Convention Center but, a set date is to be determined. The Emerald Coast is cold! Much of Florida is experiencing the coldest temperatures in years. At night the low is expected to be in the 20's for the Emerald Coast for about 10 days straight. The water temperature in the Gulf of Mexico is NOT warm! A wetsuit will be needed for anyone who ventures in. No one knows how long the cold will last. For those making vacation plans be sure to follow The Weather Channel. Coffee in Rosemary Beach.
